The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Family Sponsor Program

Making the RCAF a better home than ever before

After meeting directly with all Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) units, the Family Support Team (FST) is launching a new way of bringing families together. The Family Sponsor Program will see volunteer sponsors pro-actively reach out to families that are newly posted to RCAF units and to other families affected by duty-related separations. The goal is to ease the process of families getting settled into their new surroundings, while facilitating their access to the family support and services they need.

In consulting with RCAF members and their loved ones over the past several months, the FST identified the importance of fostering a greater sense of community at the unit level – particularly during a move or deployment.

To that end, family sponsors will proactively reach out to new families and those affected by duty-related separations and serve as a friendly point of contact when the new family arrives.  At the same time, the sponsor will also facilitate their introduction to other families within the unit.

RCAF units associated with the program will work jointly with their local Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) to build and maintain a team of volunteer sponsors.

If you belong to an RCAF family, YOU can make a difference and get involved! It simply starts with contacting your local MFRC or sending the Family Support Team an email at:

The Program will first be rolled out at 408 Squadron Edmonton, 2 Air Movements Squadron Trenton, 14 Wing Greenwood and 15 Wing Moose Jaw. It will then launch at all other RCAF units in April 2017.

Military families have every reason to feel empowered and this program will capitalize on their robust spirit while enabling them to feel at home in the RCAF community – no matter where their military adventures may lead.
