In mid-September 2017, throughout Canada, Royal Canadian Air Force members paused on wings and bases, on town squares and in cemeteries, to remember with wonder and pride their Second World War antecedents: young Canadians who, on wings and a prayer, flew strong with Commonwealth and Allied pilots from around the world, in the face of overwhelming odds, to claim an unforeseen victory in the brief, great air war that was the Battle of Britain.
