Chief Warrant Officer Lee Darling

Originally from Port au Port, NL, Chief Warrant Officer Lee Darling joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1989 and embarked upon a career as an Aerospace Telecommunications and Information Systems Technician. In 1990 he was posted to NRS Newport Corner where he performed maintenance and repair to a variety of high power LF and HF transmitters, antenna systems and related ancillary equipment.

In 1995 he was posted to 727 Communication Squadron, St. John’s and worked in the land tactical shop, responsible for maintaining land tactical communication systems for all army reserve units in Newfoundland. 

In 1997 he participated in the Nijmegen marches in the Netherlands, a highlight of his early career. 

In 2005 he was posted to Kingston and instructed High Reliability Soldering and communication system maintenance. In 2006 he was promoted to Sergent and became an electronics training supervisor prior to becoming the Crypto Training supervisor and finally the acting Troop Warrant Officer.

Promoted in 2010, he remained in Kingston and was posted to a dynamic unit consisting of a split of military personnel and Public Servants. In 2011 he became the in charge (IC) of unit ops, coordinating with client agencies, Other Government Departments and Higher Headquarters.

Promoted to Master Warrent Officer (MWO) in 2013 and posted to 42 Radar Squadron in Cold Lake as the Squadron Warrant Officer, MWO Darling enjoyed the challenges of working outside his branch in a deployable, high tempo Tactical Control Radar unit. During this time he completed yearlong French training and enjoyed deployments to the high-arctic and the middle-east.

Promoted to his current rank in 2017, CWO Darling was posted to Winnipeg where he worked as the Operations Support Squadron Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) at 17 Wing and was fortunate enough to miss a Manitoba winter due to a second middle –east deployment as the Air Task Force-IMPACT CWO.  Posted back to Cold Lake in 2020, CWO Darling is excited to again be a part of the 4 Wing family.
